ZOOM 2 TEEH WHITENING

Orthodontics: Dental Braces in the 21st Century

Years ago, dental braces were only appropriate for pre-teens and teens having problems with their bite (malocclusion). Today, orthodontic treatments are not only for pre-teens and teens, but for adults as well. Close to 30% of all orthodontic patients in Australia are adults. But it pays to start early for maximum effectiveness: the Australian Dental Association recommends that children receive an orthodontic evaluation by age seven.

What is Zoom!™ Teeth Whitening ?

The Zoom! In-Office Whitening System a is a revolutionary tooth whitening procedure. It's safe, effective and fast. In just over an hour, your teeth will be dramatically whiter. Zoom! teeth whitening has been shown to be the #1 system by an independent dental research company and is featured on the popular television program 'Extreme Makeover'.

One of Zoom's unique features is simultaneous whitening of the upper and lower teeth which gives the brightest and fastest results. Zoom! Whitening is ideal for anyone looking for immediate results. The convenience of Zoom! in comparison to days of wearing trays and gradual whitening makes it the perfect choice for the busy individual.

Can you guarantee my teeth will whiten ?

The Zoom! Teeth Whitening procedure is guaranteed to make tooth enamel go lighter. This will be thoroughly documented by use of accurate and standardised shade guide tabs. These shade guide tabs are used before and after the procedure so that you can see the results and the number of shades your teeth have improved.

Often we are able to achieve a level of whiteness that is as bright as those shades on the far left side of the shade guide.

In clinical studies, over 50% of patients reached B1* or better** in just 45 minutes. This testing was conducted among patients with starting with shades that were 8 shades or more darker than shade B1 using three, 15 minutes sessions.

(*B1 is the name of the lightest natural tooth shade on the Vitapan® shade guide. The shade guide shown above is used to measure and photograph your 'before' and 'after' shades )(**Data on file. What is the Zoom! Teeth Whitening procedure ?

The Zoom! Whitening procedure is simple. It begins with a short preparation to isolate your lips and gums. The accredited and trained dentist then applies the proprietary Zoom Whitening Gel, which is activated by a specially designed light. Teeth typically become at least six to twelve shades whiter, sometimes more. A fluoride treatment for a few minutes completes the procedure. You'll be amazed with the results. In most cases, teeth get even whiter the first few days after the procedure. We recommend a consultation and a thorough clean around one or two weeks before the Zoom! Teeth Whitening procedure if you have tartar or superficial stains.

How does Zoom! Teeth Whitening work ?

The Zoom! In-surgery Tooth Whitening System consists of a halide lamp filtered to emit light in the 350nm - 400nm range.

Unlike other systems the Zoom! light generates minimal heat which helps make the procedure comfortable.
The Zoom light activated gel was developed after years of research by Discus Dental, the leaders in professional tooth whitening. The gel is a proprietary scientifically formulated, pH balanced Hydrogen Peroxide that, when activated by the Zoom! light, gently penetrates the teeth to remove deep stains and discoloration. The Zoom! light aids in activating the Hydrogen Peroxide and helps it penetrate the surface of the tooth. As the Hydrogen Peroxide gel is broken down, oxygen enters the enamel. The production of highly saturated oxygen from the hydrogen peroxide gel breaks down the size of long chained molecules that stain tooth enamel. (Examples of these molecules are coffee, tea, tobacco, chocolate, red wine, sauce and beetroot.) As these "teeth staining" molecules become smaller they release themselves from within the tooth enamel while the structure of the tooth is unchanged. Dramatically whiter and brighter teeth is then achieved. The Zoom company has worked extensively with optics experts for many months to create a new custom Sodium-Free Short Arc bulb, which emits the optimal bleaching spectrum at the highest power output of any chairside whitening system ever.

An average of 8 shades in just 45 minutes. Zoom! patients experience 67% less sensitivity than those treated with the original Zoom! system - a system heralded for its low sensitivity characteristics. The new Zoom! advanced optical guidance system ensures quick, precise patient set-up for optimal results. A study has shown that use of the Zoom! lamp increases the effectiveness of the Zoom! gel by 33% or more, giving an average improvement of eight shades. In clinical studies, over 50% of patients reached B1* or better** in just 45 minutes. This testing was conducted among patients with starting with shades that were 8 shades or more darker than shade B1 using three, 15 minutes sessions.

Do many people whiten their teeth ?

Millions of people! More than you might imagine; both men and women. A dazzling smile can ignite a room, projecting an image of self-assurance and high personal esteem. Now it can be yours! The Zoom! Whitening System makes it easier and faster than ever before.

How long does Zoom! In-Surgery Whitening take ?

Most dental surgerys will tell you that the whole procedure will take less than one hour, however to get fantastic results, quality and service we allow at least 90 minutes to do the the best Zoom whitening treatment possible. The actual amount of time the proprietary Zoom light is shining on your teeth is between 45 to 60 minutes. The complete procedure, however requires 90 minutes. This begins with a preparation period of around 25 minutes followed by one hour of bleaching. A five minute fluoride treatment completes the procedure.

How white will my teeth become ?

The results are spectacular. Clinical studies have shown that the Zoom teeth whitening treatment achieves up to 12 shades lighter with the average being 8 shades. Individual results may vary and will depend upon your age, type of stain, initial tooth colour and any visible restorations (White fillings, crowns etc). Please ask our qualified dental staff how much whiter your teeth can be and we will show you what is possible on a tooth shade guide as shown above. To boost your results we recommend using custom made whitening trays for only 30 minutes a day for 5 to 10 days.

Some whitening clinics will only recommend either surgery whitening or home whitening. We have found that combining both methods is the best way to get the most dramatic results and keep them for life.

How long do the results last ?

Your teeth will always be lighter than they were before. To keep your teeth looking their best, we recommend flossing, brushing twice daily and use of take-home whitening gel and custom made teeth whitening trays once or twice per year. These are professional formula products designed specifically to keep your teeth their brightest. They are available only through your dental professional. Six monthly general cleans and checkups are also recommended to remove any resistant surface stains and to keep your teeth and gums healthy for life.

Can Zoom! Teeth whitening work if I have already tried other whitening systems in the past ?

Yes! If you have used other in-surgery procedures and/or take-home whitening systems and/or over the counter products or any other systems that claim to be the same as Zoom! we have found that Zoom! Teeth Whitening will still be able to further improve the results. In many cases the improvement is very noticeable. However, we would need to consult you first. If you have deep stains caused by tetracycline antibiotics or your front teeth have been treated then your teeth may only whiten a fraction more. Other options then may need consideration and will be fully explained to you.

Is there any difference between over-the-counter tooth whiteners and Zoom ?

Yes! Consulting your dental professional is always the first step to whitening your teeth safely. Plus, over-the-counter tooth whitening strips, brush-on gels and toothpastes take weeks or months to whiten your teeth just a few shades. In fact patients often tell us that the low concentration over-the-counter tooth whitening products had no noticeable result. Zoom! is clinically proven to whiten your teeth eight shades or more in just over an hour. Only a dentist can get your teeth this white, this fast.

Does it work on veneers, crowns or tooth coloured bonded materials ?

The Zoom teeth whitening treatment is designed to work on vital (living) tooth enamel. However, there has been some success in removing stains from veneers, crowns and tooth coloured bonded materials. During your consultation we will discuss your particular situation.

Is Zoom teeth whitening safe ?

Yes, extensive research and clinical studies indicate that whitening teeth under the supervision of a Zoom trained and accredited dentist is very safe. The active ingredient in the Zoom teeth whitening treatment is Hydrogen Peroxide that changes to oxygen. This has been safely used in dentistry for over a hundred years. Numerous scientific articles have shown that using hydrogen peroxide to whiten teeth is effective and safe. It has also been thoroughly studied, tested and found safe by university researchers. The Zoom teeth whitening treatment has no adverse effect on existing restorations (fillings or crowns etc), and does not rub away, soften, damage or weaken the enamel tooth structure. As with any tooth whitening product, Zoom! is not recommended for children under 13 years of age and pregnant or lactating women. One of the unique features of Zoom teeth whitening is that minimal heat is transferred, thus ensuring a safe experience. Zoom teeth whitening in-surgery teeth whitening can only be performed by specially qualified dentists, which further ensures your safety.

Will it hurt and are there any side effects ?

Some people will experience temporary increased tooth sensitivity to cold during or after treatment. These symptoms disappear within 1-3 days after completion of the treatment. The temporary sensitivity can be minimal for some yet others will notice it similar to ice-cream sensitivity. We will give you plenty of advice and flouride gel to help minimize this temporary sensitivity. No needles or drills are used.

A note of assurance

Tooth whitening is an extremely well-established procedure in cosmetic dentistry. Hydrogen Peroxide, the active agent in Zoom! has also been safely used for many years in the treatment of gums and other oral soft tissue. The whitening process is effective on most discoloured teeth. Darker stains, such as those cause by antibiotics, are more difficult to whiten. The degree of whiteness will vary from patient to patient, depending on the structure of the teeth.
